Name Writing
Written by Administrator

Name Writing is often the First Real Attempt at Writing For a Child.

A child's name writing allows them to see their own name in words and gives them a real sense of achievement. It is often the most important word they will write in the early years.

Your child's first name is probably one word they recognise early on, because you often write it on their pictures, label their belongings, put name plaques on doors, and today you can also purchase many products with your child's name on it, like cups, drink bottles etc.

Writing the name is probably best attempted in stages depending on your child's abilities with the alphabet.

Talk about the letters in their name first - what is the first letter of your name? Point it out whenever you see it - on signs, in the shopping centre etc. Talk about how it is written and why it is the only capital letter -> why? because it begins a special name.

Write it for them and let them copy it. If your child has a long name, take you time to practise each letter and work right through their name.

Writing their name is an achievement for a child, as their name defines them - it's THEIRS!

If your child has difficulty writing their name or you would like them to learn to write their name before they attend school, our Personalised Handwriting Card has been created just for them.
